Block seminar for MA and PhD students of ELTE BTK and the University of Vienna

In the winter semester of 2025/2026, a seminar on the topic will be held both at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and at the University of Vienna (led by Prof. Andrea Seidler and Lilla Krász). With the help of a scriptum as supporting material, MA and PhD students at each home university will receive a thematic and methodological introduction, which will be further complemented by participation in the subsequent junior seminar in Budapest. The block seminar focuses on early modern epistemic practices. By concentrating on the use of text-image-object-based sources that represent the materiality of knowledge production, the process of (scientific) knowledge production — “knowledge in the making” — and the actual work involved are brought into focus. Key concepts in the context of the early modern Habsburg Monarchy include: history of knowledge, materiality studies, history of things, text-image-object-based source analysis, knowledge/science, practices, artefacts, and more.
